Established on April 9, 1924, when Senate Bill No. 126 was enacted in law, the MSRB seeks an accountant to work closely with its Chief Financial Officer. The Mississippi State Rating Bureau is a non-profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors comprised of nine members elected from Member Companies. Each insurance company licensed to write Fire and Allied Lines Insurance in the state of Mississippi is required to be a member of the Bureau. The Bureau is supported through an annual assessment of its Member Companies based on the premiums written in the state.
Additionally, the Bureau is charged with the operations of the Mississippi Windstorm Underwriting Association and the Mississippi Residential Property Insurance Underwriting Association. The position sought would be responsible for accounting functions related to three different organizations.
Job Requirements:
Responsible for reconciling daily ACH files and uploading to banking institution from policy management software
Verifies, enters and/or integrates accounting transactions from policy management software into accounting system ensuring proper coding, detecting, and reconciling discrepancies in financial records
Maintains all relevant daily and monthly accounting documentation and work papers
Timely responds to accounting requests from underwriting team members
Supports the setup of agent/agency producer codes including reviewing agent acquisitions, mergers and closing agreements
Monitors the monthly commission check process including reconciling statements and cash receipts
Manages time constraints and regulatory or board deadlines
Supports the CFO in preparation of the monthly financial statements for four operating entities
Perform additional duties as assigned by the chief financial officer and office management
Assumes individual responsibility to learn through training
Performs most work and makes decisions with minimal assistance
Required Experience and Education:
Two (2) to three (3) years’ experience in accounting, demonstrating a progression in complexity and number of projects
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting or related field with accounting experience.
Proficiency in use of Microsoft Excel and accounting software. Experience in Microsoft Dynamics GP preferred but not essential.

Each insurance company licensed to write Fire and Allied Lines Insurance in the state is required to be a member of the Bureau. There are approximately 639 Member Companies. The Bureau is supported through an annual assessment of its Member Companies based on the premiums written in the state. No Local, State or Federal funds are used for the operation of the Bureau.

MSRB consists of the Rating, Public Protection, Audit and Accounting Departments. Additionally, the Bureau is charged with the operations of the Mississippi Windstorm Underwriting Association and the Mississippi Residential Property Insurance Underwriting Association.
