The Poultry Science Department currently houses approximately 70 undergraduate students, 17 graduate students, and 11 faculty. The Department conducts teaching, research and extension activities on the 55 acre Poultry Research Unit on the MSU South Farm, which includes facilities for research with ~5,000 broilers, ~24,000 eggs/embryos, and ~3,000 layers. In addition, two tunnel research houses nearby house ~40,000 broilers. Proximity to and a strong working relationship with commercial poultry operations in the Southeast will increase research and extension opportunities for the successful candidate. The Department has recently renovated the industry-relevant processing plant, with assistance from an industry advisory board that has met quarterly for the past 18 months. In addition, we are happy to announce that our faculty and staff have recently relocated to a new facility, which houses state-of-the-art research labs and classrooms. The Department offers Bachelors of Science degrees with concentrations in Applied Poultry Management and Science and Pre-Vet Science. Both M.S. and Ph.D. degrees are offered from within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences in Poultry Science.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties Include, but are not limited to: * Assist graduate students with poultry-related projects * Handling of eggs and birds and operation of automated in ovo multi-egg injection machine and hatching egg incubators as required for projects * Assist with bird necropsy and handling of any collected samples * Maintain communication with other technicians/research associates in the department regarding incubator use at MSU's Poultry Research Unit on South Farm * Maintain order and organization in the Physiology laboratory located on-campus o Be present and prepared for laboratory safety inspections o Maintain chemical inventory and MSDS sheets for all chemical inventory o Order supplies for laboratory needs * Maintain personal training record and ensure students working within the laboratory and in poultry experiments have completed needed trainings * Complete internal and external inventory audits * Assist graduate students with data storage (Ex. lab notebook and J drive) * May assist with data entry into Excel * Other duties as assigned
Education: Bachelor's Degree in poultry science, animal science, genetics, biochemistry, animal breeding, or related field.
Experience with Webex meetings or video editing experience would be a plus. Experience with poultry research and/or raising poultry.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The position requires a high level of organization, attention to details, ability to work well in a group environment, ability to communicate effectively and professionally both verbally and in writing, ability to prepare written material, familiarity with computer-based programs (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, statistical programs). Ability to work with poultry in a research setting.
