This position is responsible for project engineering associated with various construction and capital improvement projects at existing and new electric power generating facilities. The Generation Projects Engineer will assist in the development and performance of capital improvement projects at generation facilities in support of station personnel who operate and maintain mechanical and process systems and equipment to generate electric power. The Generation Projects Engineer will act as a technical resource for mechanical equipment and/or process systems at generation facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Acts as the primary project engineer for mechanical and/or process-related generation construction, capital improvement, and maintenance projects.
Minimizes the exposure and risk of each project while assuring safe, schedule, and budget-compliant completion.
Develops scopes-of-work including commercial terms and technical specifications for the installation of new systems and equipment in accordance with current applicable codes and regulations and ensures that work is performed in accordance with terms and specifications.
Coordinates work activities with other departments and power plant personnel in order to assure safety and environmental compliance requirements are met.
Assures all equipment isolation safety procedures are in place and followed by employees and contractor personnel.
Contributes to the training of plant personnel regarding the safe operation and maintenance of existing and newly installed systems, equipment and controls.
Performs project engineering tasks on all assigned projects and provides consistent and timely status reports on all projects in the planning and construction phases.
Coordinates and oversees equipment and systems construction in order to assure interface between contractor firms and Cooperative Energy personnel is maintained.
Plans, proposes and justifies new equipment and systems capital and maintenance and/or improvement projects.
Reviews all procurement and construction related documents and drawings for assigned projects and assures that appropriate review is performed by all relevant sections within Cooperative Energy including Plant Management and Staff, Engineering, Transmission, Environmental and Fuels, Operations and Planning, Finance, and Senior Management.
Manages budgets for assigned projects.
Tracks and verifies all billing/invoicing activities, and monitors receivables for assigned projects.
Assures that all project deliverables are completed and/or incorporated into plant-level and Cooperative Energy processes and systems including drawings/documents, operation/maintenance manuals, and spare parts.
Coordinates with onsite construction contractors and staff members for assigned projects to assure safe work conditions/practices are in place; compliance with all environmental and safety regulations/procedures is achieved; permit applications for construction activities are developed and submitted on schedule; and tie-in/installation and new equipment commissioning project activities are coordinated with plant personnel and other functional areas.
Develops and provides written and oral reports and presentations to keep Management and impacted groups informed on project status.
Works with Generation Projects Coordinator to keep an updated project schedule for all assigned projects.
Attends regular project team meetings to monitor and update project schedule progress and performance.
Bachelor's Degree Mechanical Engineering (ABET Accredited Institution) Or
Bachelor's Degree Chemical Engineering (ABET Accredited Institution) Required
3 years Industrial Plant Project, Design, and/or Construction Experience Required
Certification & Licensures:
PE License Preferred
Valid Mississippi Driver's License Required
Successfully pass a security sensitive background screening. Required
