The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for tax planning and compliance. An integral part of the corporate accounting team, the Senior Tax Accountant reports to the Controller. Job duties include:
•Coordinate preparation and filing of Federal and state income and franchise tax returns with tax advisory firm for all entities.
•Create and book adjustments to GAAP income to calculate taxable income.
•Maintain fixed assets on a tax basis.
•Budget and forecast tax-specific information including recognition of revenue and deductibility of expenses that vary from GAAP.
•Prepare dividend and taxable income section of quarterly Board book.
•Prepare quarterly REIT tests.
•Manage tax savings projects including reversal of straight-line rent for tax books, as well as research recommended tax life for development property components.
•Coordinate 1031 exchanges - track all deadlines and coordinate identification of properties sold and acquired; update workpapers and memorandums; book adjustments to tax books.
•Act as liaison to the external audit team for tax-related issues.
•Participate in stock offering due diligence.
•Prepare and record quarterly accrual for state, local and franchise taxes.
•Prepare 1099-DIV information and provide to reporting services.
•Prepare vendor 1099s for all entities.
•Manage Taxable REIT Subsidiary (TRS).
•Prepare and file personal property tax returns.
•Perform all accounting duties and prepare tax returns for property associations.
•Attend industry specific tax conferences.
•Become knowledgeable with UPREIT model.
•Research tax issues and remain current on tax developments.
•Coordinate budgeting process for capital expenditures.
•Complete various financial, accounting, administrative and other duties as assigned or as necessary.
Education & Experience:
•Bachelor Degree in Accounting or Finance required; advanced degree preferred.
•A minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience is required. Preference will be given to candidates with real estate and/or public accounting experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
•Clear understanding of GAAP and tax accounting.
•Must be organized, detailed, flexible, efficient and take ownership of work product.
•Ability to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines.
•Strong analytical and communication skills.
•Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
