OBJECTIVE: Assist Accounting Supervisor with the financial responsibilities for the organization to ensure accurate processing, recording and storing of financial transactions and supporting documents and maintain compliance with state and federal sales tax code.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain tax records and prepare sales tax returns, related schedules, and related reports for multi-state sales tax jurisdictions.
Maintain sales tax rates and customer sales tax status in computerized member management system.
Research and resolve state tax notices on a timely basis by investigating and interpreting state tax regulations.
Assist with the month-end closing process including, but not limited to
Reconcile and balance general ledger account balances to the applicable subsidiary ledger and other available documentation.
Conduct research on account discrepancies and prepare correcting journal entries.
Prepare monthly, quarterly and yearly accruals and closing journal entries.
Prepare month-end closing reports. Maintain Asset Keeper fixed asset system, which includes preparation of journal entries, reconciliation of general ledger to fixed assets system, and preparation of monthly depreciation schedules.Assume responsibility for the preparation of the department daily check log.Assist with annual filing of 990 e-postcards for individual chapters. Under the direction of the General Accounting Supervisor support the Financial Services team by working on a variety of projects within the department. Prepare special financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information. Maintain financial security by following internal controls. Promote a customer service mindset within the Financial Services team. Support implementation of the strategic plan.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work.
Three years of computerized accounting experience; non-profit experience preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
Experience with Blackbaud applications preferred.
Professional written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
